Public Transport Operators must Be Proactive to Prevent Sexual Violence

Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) Head Syafrin Liputo instructed all operators and public transport crews to conduct campaigns for the prevention and handling of acts of sexual violence against women and children in its service.

You (operator and crew) must be fully committed and take proactive action

One of them was by installing a sticker containing information on the Jakarta Siaga (Jakarta Standby) on 112, the Hotline number 0813 1761 7622 for the Women and Children Empowerment Center (P2TP2A), including the operator's complaint service number.

It was intended that passengers or service users can easily report acts of violence and sexual harassment to women and children.

According to him, it was in accordance with Dishub's Circular Letter number e-0028/2022 on the Provision of Services in the Context of Prevention and Handling of Violence Against Women and Children on Public Transport Services in Jakarta.

"Public transport operators also periodically conduct educational media screenings, either through audio or video media for the prevention and handling of acts of violence against women and children," he expressed, Sunday (8/7).

In the letter, public transport operators were instructed to regularly provide counseling to public transport drivers to prevent and report acts of sexual violence to women and children.

He added that they also need to conduct education and training on the prevention and handling of acts of violence against women and children for vehicle crews.

The education and training could be coordinated with the Dishub and then forwarded to the Jakarta Child Protection and Population Control Empowerment Agency (PPAPP).

"You (operator and crew) must be fully committed and take proactive action in preventing and dealing with acts of violence against women and children," he stressed.
