BPS Releases Inflation Data for Foreign Tourist Visits as of August 2022

The Jakarta Central Statistics Agency (BPS) released official statistics (BRS) data on inflation, exports, imports, foreign tourists, and hotel room occupancy rates (TPK) in Jakarta.

In August 2022, there will be several declines in the prices of goods and services in Jakarta. It was stated in the Official Statistics Gazette (BRS) released by the Jakarta BPS on September 1, 2022.

Jakarta BPS Head Anggoro Dwitjahyono said during August, there was 0.11 percent deflation. Each group of spending on goods and services had a different contribution to deflation.

"There are three expenditure groups that experienced deflation, while the other eight experienced inflation," he expressed, in a written statement, Friday (9/2).

The data for the group of expenditures on goods and services experiencing inflation/deflation are:

- General -0.11

- Food, Drink, and Tobacco -1.90

- Clothing and Footwear -0.68

- Housing, Water, Electricity, and Fuel 1.07

- Household Equipment, Appliances, and Maintenance 0.19

- Health 0.09

- Transport 0.23

- Information, Communication, and Financial Services -0.03

- Education 0.86

- Provision of Food and Beverages/Restaurant 0.32

- Personal Care and Other Services 0.18

Aside that, he released export figures for hotel room occupancy rates (TPK). Exports of goods from Jakarta in July 2022 amounted to USD 917.1 million, down by 7.9 percent compared to the previous month (m-to-m).

"In contrast to the m-to-m growth, exports of goods from Jakarta in July compared to the same month the previous year which rose 7.4 percent (y-on-y)," he explained.

Jakarta's imports in July 2022 were recorded at USD 6.7 billion, down 3.3 percent compared to the previous month (m-to-m). In contrast to the m-to-m growth of imports in July compared to the same month a year earlier which rose 28.9 percent (y-on-y).

He continued that foreign tourist visits to Jakarta in July 2022 were 119,197 or up 39.27 percent compared to the previous month (m-to-m). When compared to July 2021, there was an increase of 2,078.71 percent (y-on-y).

"The TPK for star hotels in July 2022 was 54.5 percent or a slight increase of 0.2 percentage points compared to the previous month (m-to-m). When compared to July 2021, the TPK in July 2022 rose 22.8 percent points (y-on-y)," he stated.
