Jakarta DPRD Commission D Chairwoman, Ida Mahmudah believed that the two facilities would solve the waste problem in Jakarta considering that the production of Jakarta's waste sent to Bantargebang almost touched the figure of more than 8,000 tons per day.

She hoped that the two projects, which are planned to be launched on October 10, could start operating early next year.

"This is a pretty good pilot project to solve the waste problem in Jakarta," she said, Wednesday (10/5).

She explained that the Landfill Mining and RDF Plant construction filed by the Environment Agency (LH) used the City Budget (APBD) amounting to Rp 900 billion. She pushed for these two projects to be built in Jakarta.

"Alhamdulillah, we can use the APBD funds so we don't need debt. Hopefully, Jakarta can make it again in other places," he expressed.

LH Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto explained that the two projects were able to reduce waste by up to 2,000 tons per day, with details processing old waste of 1,000 tons and new waste of 1,000 tons per day. The production would also produce 750 tonnes of coal.

“RDF will be able to produce 750 tons of coal which will be purchased by the cement industry. Hope it can be a source of income for the Jakarta administration and finance operations," he explained.

He explained that the RDF in Bantargebang was built on 74,914-square-meter land and would be equipped with supporting facilities and infrastructure. Among them are management offices, laboratories, product warehouses, weighbridges, fire stations, truck washes, control rooms, and wastewater treatment plants.

"Hope the development will be able to reduce and process the waste that has been in the Bantargebang Landfill for years," he explained.

Bantargebang Landfill Executing Unit Head, Agung added that the construction of the RDF Plant and landfill mining treatment was made with an open green building concept to facilitate air circulation.

"We'll continue to evaluate the results of what we are working on and continue to think about how the waste management in Jakarta can be better and deflate the mountains of garbage in Bantargebang," he concluded.
