Jakarta Transportation Department officers who are caught conducting illegal levies (pungli) to the Kopaja bus in the HI Roundabout threatened to be demoted. It has tarnished the good name of the city administration that is currently intensively eradicating corruption.

If I see this practice, I will demote them

Jakarta Vice Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidajat disclosed that he will act decisively against those carrying out illegal levies. "If I see this practice, I will demote them," he asserted, in Pramuka Island, Saturday (2/7).

He said the city administration already agreed on five rules with Jakarta's City Police and Military Commander (Pangdam). Any action that violates it, the relevant will be followed up firmly. "We've already agreed on five rules, including traffic order," he expressed. 

As for the driver who was involved in illegal levies will also be sanctioned, such as route permit revocation. It is a must in order to create public order.

"The solution is simple, we revoke the route permit and then followed up by Transportation Department. Afterwards, we hunt the actors of illegal levies. I don't want see this anymore, moreover it has involved the driver and officer," he stressed.

As for the information, a video containing recording of the illegal levies in HI Roundabout was published on youtube. There is a Kopaja bus conductor ran faster than the bus while putting something in the police post. Whereas, there are police officers on standby. He then ran again and put something else in flower pots. As a matter of fact, this action has involved unscrupulous members of Jakarta Transportation Department.

Benjamin Bukit, Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, admitted he had collected those suspects' names. "We already have the suspects, one of them initial K has confessed. He is identified as a Staff of Operational Management, Jakarta Transportation Department," he told.
