Susur Ciliwung, Djarot Kita Lihat Sisi Lain Jakarta

Djarot: Jakartans must Be Wise to Use the Rivers

Jakarta Vice Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidajat disclosed that Jakarta residents must be wise and sensible to use the river thus its existence does not become a disaster in the capital. Djarot cited, the trash problem is one of the causes of flooding. Moreover, to change the people's mindset for not littering in the river, is still quite difficult.

It taught us to be wise and friendly to use water and river

"Mostly trash is dominated with banana trees and household, but most of it has been resolved. Because we will do monitoring every day. These trashes would certainly hamper the water flow," said Djarot, when he controlled Ciliwung River, Wednesday (2/11).

According to him, he also got another lesson from the Ciliwung River, that is should be wise and sensible to use the river and water. He explained, the water must be managed well as disaster anticipation.

"It taught us to be wise and friendly to use water and river. Our mindset must be changed where we have to use the water and river well," he told.

Meanwhile, the Jakarta Provincial Government along with Ministry of Public Works and Housing would normalize the Ciliwung. Before that, he must relocate the citizens first to the flats.

"The flats were built to accommodate people who live in slums. This is our plan that will arrange the slums in Jakarta," he explained.

His party also cooperates with army to clean up trashes along Ciliwung River. It has been done since December 2014 and will expire at the end of 2015.

"We do this thoroughly. It must be sustainable," he asserted.
