City - BNPT Synergizes to Prevent Radicalism

To prevent radicalism within Jakarta Provincial Government, Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono and National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Head Com. Gen. Pol Boy Rafli Amar gave specific directions to State Civil Apparatus (ASN) officials, at City Hall, Central Jakarta, Monday (3/6).

I want the citizens and people in Jakarta to be safe from all kinds of threats that we don't expect

This directive is a form of synergy between Jakarta Government and BNPT, which aims to minimize the potential for radicalism and combat terrorism in Jakarta, especially ahead of the 2024 elections.

In his direction, the Acting Governor stated preventive measures would be useful to protect all Jakarta residents in order to create a safe and peaceful atmosphere in society.

He also conveyed the importance of paying attention to all potential obstacles that might arise, no matter how small, for instance terrorism and radicalism. It is because small problems and obstacles if left unchecked can become bigger problems and impact society.

"I also often discuss this with the BNPT, especially during the G20. I want the citizens and people in Jakarta to be safe from all kinds of threats that we don't expect," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

Therefore, he hoped that ASN officials serving under Jakarta Government could have the same vision as the BNPT through clear directions and understanding in preventing the potential spread of radicalism. There were also attended by City Secretary, Joko Agus Setyono, Tourism and Culture Division Head, Marullah Matali, and other ranks consisting of Agency heads, Agency heads, Bureau heads, and BUMD directors.

In the meantime, BNPT Head, Com. Gen. Pol. Boy Rafli Amar explained the role of ASNs and elements of the national army (TNI) and police as the front guard is important in protecting the country's constitutional system to avoid radicalism. Moreover, Indonesia is also aware of world geopolitical developments, which must adopt a free and active foreign policy.

"Surely, Indonesia must be friendly with all parties (other countries). But, we have to realize that the dynamics of world life can't be separated from geopolitical battles, where powerful countries that have intentions and even interests may be in line with the interests of our country. It may not even be in line with the value system that we have built, which wants to influence our lives," he explained.

He added the importance of provisions related to Pancasila education for youth in schools. To attract more attention, he suggested Pancasila education could be given in parks such as Tebet Eco Park and child-friendly integrated public spaces (RPTRA) in Jakarta.

"At last, if there are parties who try to incorporate values that are not in line with Pancasila, it is hoped that the role of ASN, especially in Jakarta, will continue to maintain shared human values based on unity. Hopefully, elements of TNI, police, and ASN can work together in maintaining peace and tranquility in social life," he stated.
