Our turnover during Ramadan has increased to Rp 15 million per day

The holy month of Ramadan is a blessing in itself for clothes sellers at Tanah Abang Market, Central Jakarta.

The crowds of visitors who come to hunt for clothing items for Idul Fitri celebrations make shopping activities at the largest textile center in Southeast Asia even more vibrant.

Based on the information gathered in the field, Tanah Abang Market, precisely in Blocks A, B, and F until Thamrin City is seen to be very busy with visitors. Most visitors came to buy robes, tunics, Koko shirts, headscarves, brooches, and shirts.

Maryanti (33), an Avishta Shopkeeper in Block F of Tanah Abang Market admitted that her sales turnover increased quite drastically after entering the third day of Ramadan.

"Our turnover during Ramadan has increased to Rp 15 million per day compared to normal days, our turnover is Rp 10 million per day," she expressed, Saturday (4/8).

She went on to say that visitors generally buy more than three pieces of semi-gamis clothes. These clothes are usually resold in areas such as Sumatra, Sulawesi, to Kalimantan.

"We have our convection. So, the kodian (per piece) prices that we offer in stores are much cheaper," she continued.

The same statement also came from Permata Sari (34), an UMMA Shopkeeper in Thamrin City who focuses on selling robes, bergo, and khimar.

"It started to get busy in early March. On a normal day, the turnover is around Rp 2 million. Now, it can be Rp. 3 million," she uttered.

Usually, most visitors come on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday and approach Idul Fitri.

"On days like that, the shop's turnover can be more than Rp 3 million per day," she admitted.

Neydia Pricilla (28), one of the visitors, feels it is right to shop at Tanah Abang Market because it provides a wide variety of colors, models, and affordable prices.

"At the Tanah Abang Market, the price can also be bargained. What's more, if you buy more than one, the price can be lower again," she stated.
