45 Urban Villages in Jakarta Become Women-Friendly and Caring for Children Pilot Projects
Reported by Aldi Geri Lumban Tobing | Translated by Nugroho Adibrata
The Jakarta Provincial Government has designated 45 sub-districts as pilot projects for Women-Friendly and Caring for Children (KRPPA) Villages in Jakarta. The choice of location was also supported by the issuance of Gubernatorial Jakarta Decree No. 334/2023 on KRPPA in Jakarta.
This decree supports the implementation of the Child Friendly City (KLA) program
This decree will become the legal basis for organizing women's empowerment and child protection activities that are integrated at sub-district level.
Jakarta Empowerment, Child Protection and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) Acting Head, Rizki Hamid said the determination of KRPPA Villages is a pilot location in fostering and empowering urban villages that integrates a gender perspective and fulfillment of children's rights.
Commission B Gears Up to Smoothen Development of ITF Sunter"This decree supports the implementation of the Child Friendly City (KLA) program at the urban village scale. If the urban village is suitable for children, it is certain that the sub-district is suitable for children, if the sub-district is suitable for children, the city is also suitable for children. Thus, later 25 percent of urban villages in Jakarta are suitable for children this year," he expressed, Tuesday (5/16).
He explained considerations for the appointment of 45 urban villages include having women leaders in those locations such as urban village head or urban village secretary. Then, there are also agents of change such as Dasawisma Cadres and TP PKK, Family Income Increase Business (UP2K), Children's Forums and Anti-Violence Student Ambassadors which are supported by the availability of facilities such as Violence Post and RPTRA.
"These urban villages are an initial work that can be accelerated related to women's empowerment and child protection programs which will be collaborated with the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA) later," he explained.
His party would make regional facilitators (Fasda) with 10 people per sub-district coming from Dasawisma Cadres, PKK, Children's Forums, and Anti-Violence Student Ambassadors. They were tasked with educating the public, especially women and children, about empowering and protecting women and children.
"This means that we will have Fasda with 450 people that we will provide supplies for them. Hopefully, in these locations, women are empowered and their children are protected. It can be clearly seen between pilot and non-pilot urban village. We'll evaluate it again for 2-3 years," he stated.
