Commission B: Security Level in Markets must Be Optimized

Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B Chairman, Ismail has said that Perumda Pasar Jaya must optimize security officers in the markets it manages.

If it is unoptimal, we will add more

He stated he said it was a must in order to prevent criminal acts in the market to actions that can harm market visitors such as illegal levies (pungli).

"They (Pasar Jaya) can map the needs of security officers. If it is unoptimal, we will add more," he expreased, Wednesday (7/12).

He explained the Blok G Tanah Abang needs special attention as it is in an area prone to drug trafficking and prostitution.

"I remind you, before there is activation, there must be extra security," he asserted.

Previously, there had been various activation efforts, thus there was no misuse of the location.

"Since Mr. Jokowi's era, attempts had been made to activate it, thus the market is not quiet and instead it is misused. There are around 2,200 business premises, but after updating in 2018, there were only 800 in use," he explained.

In 2018, there was a plan to rejuvenate Blok G Tanah Abang Market. However, it had not been realized yet.

"Trader data has been recollected in 2022 and only around 300 business premises were used. This is the basis for Perumda Pasar Jaya to plan future rejuvenation or activation," he explained.

Based on the information gathered, the Pasar Jaya had studied the application of a mix-use pattern, namely, as a place of business and a warehousing or shipping area.

"There is also the possibility of adding a public parking area to facilitate the mobility of residents who are going to shop," he added.

He went to say that the Commission B strongly encourages the activation of the Blok G Tanah Abang Market to be conducted immediately by taking into account the number of existing traders, thus later it really meets the needs.

"I also ask Pasar Jaya synergize with Sarana Jaya to make Blok G Tanah Abang Market part of a Transit Oriented Development which also integrates shopping with residential areas," he continued.

Perumda Pasar Jaya Public Relations Manager, Agus Lamun uttered there are currently security officers at Blok G Tanah Abang Market.

"They're on duty 24 hours with a shift system to ensure the safety and comfort of visitors and traders," he explained.

Even, Pasar Jaya is also coordinating with the local police, thus Blok G Tanah Abang Market and other markets are maintained safely and conducively.

"We're certainly committed that the markets managed by Pasar Jaya are clean, tidy, safe, and comfortable for all," he said.
