Commission B: Jakarta Wants More Pink Transjakarta Buses Immediately

Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B Chairman, Ismail has said that PT Transjakarta must add more pink Transjakarta buses for women to prevent sexual immorality.

According to him, there needed to be short-term and long-term solutions to accelerate the addition of women-only buses.

"In the short term, the procurement of women-only buses can be done by utilizing existing buses with special markings through running text on the buses. It aims to identify that particular bus," he expressed, Friday (3/3).

By utilizing the existing buses, the headway for female bus passengers during rush hour would not be too long. The reason is, so far the pink bus is still very limited.

"Cases of sexual harassment often occur during peak passenger hours. It must be anticipated immediately. I believe there are also many who experience harassment but do not report it with various considerations," he explained.

As for the long term, it could be done by adding a pink bus considering that almost most Transjakarta bus users are also women.

"Surely, it needs further budgeting and discussion. Most importantly, I want PT Transjakarta to quickly provide a solution policy," he explained.

He asserted that cases of immoral acts on Transjakarta buses would actually reduce public transportation users, so strict action must be taken against the perpetrators, including imposing social sanctions.

"Feeling safe and comfortable is important. Not only for women using Transjakarta buses, but also for bringing peace to their families," he asserted.

Commission B Legislator, Adi Kurnia Setiadi hoped that Transjakarta could really do mapping of passenger movements and the readiness or need for the number of buses during rush hours.

"There must be an evaluation so that passengers are not overcrowded to trigger or provide opportunities for sexual harassment," he stated.

To accelerate the provision of a sense of security and comfort for female passengers, it could be done by canalizing buses. Moreover, PT Transjakarta also has articulated buses

"It can be used as a partition, like a train where there are special carriages. I guess this could also be an alternative," he stated.
