Commission B Supports ITS Traffic Light NOC Trial

The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B supports trials of the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology for the Intelligent Traffic Light System (ITS) Network Operation Center (NOC) traffic monitoring system.

So, we propose that ITS NOC be implemented in Jakarta

ITS NOC trial, which has been implemented at 20 intersection points since April 2023, is considered successful in reducing congestion in Jakarta by around 20 percent.

Jakarta DPRD Commission B Chairman, Ismail said the council together with the Transportation Agency had discussed the proposed trial operation of the ITS NOC system during a meeting to discuss the work plan for the 2023 fiscal year.

When a joint meeting was held, members of Commission B requested for an evaluation of the implementation of static traffic lights on a number of roads that were unable to parse congestion.

"The proposal came out from the council members during the budget discussion and was responded to by Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub)," he expressed, at City Council building, Monday (7/10).

He explained traffic lights that are static in Jakarta are currently considered to be less able to parse traffic jams for motorcycles.

"So, we propose that ITS NOC be implemented in Jakarta by looking at the implementation of a similar system in Japan, which is quite effective in breaking down traffic jams," he explained.

He explained the legislative together with the executive will evaluate the trial implementation of the ITS NOC system at 20 intersections in the near future.

"The council will push for a similar application if the trial of the congestion-reducing system at 20 Jakarta intersections is successful," he expressed.

He added the regulation of traffic light by adopting the ITS NOC system based on the density of motorcycles. Meanwhile, the application of traffic light in Jakarta so far has been regulated according to the time division.

"If the traffic light time hasn't expired, the lights don't change even though the condition on one of the roads is empty from the density of motorcycles," he stated.
