Commission D Legislators Inspect Water Hyacinth Cleaning at Pluit Reservoir

The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission D, conducted a sudden inspection (sidak) to Pluit Reservoir, Penjaringan, North Jakarta.

Jakarta DPRD Commission D Chairman, Ida Mahmudah said the inspection was done to ensure that the cleaning of water hyacinth in the Pluit Reservoir area was running optimally.

"Yesterday, this reservoir went viral, as it was filled with water hyacinth plants. The Pluit Reservoir is important as part of the flood control system in Jakarta," she expressed, Thursday (7/20).

Commission D: Completeness of Flat Facilities must Be Fulfilled

Based on the results of the evaluation, her party asked for the need for additional personnel from the Environmental Agency on duty at Pluit Reservoir.

"There are currently only six personnel on duty in the 80-hectare reservoir. We ask for additional personnel to speed up the work," she explained.

To get optimal results, there should be garbage ships.

"Actually, we already have two additional ships from Pelindo and hopefully they can be put into operation soon. As Commission D Chairman, thank Pelindo and hope that what is needed to speed up the ship's operations can be completed soon," she explained.

In the future, the reservoir could be kept clean, thus it could function optimally when there is an increase in water volume.

"I also advised the residents to jointly maintain the cleanliness of channels, rivers, or reservoirs by not littering," she uttered.

Besides Pluit Reservoir, sidak was also made to Pump House or Pluit Reservoir Polder as an integrated part.

"It has been around since 1980," she added.

According to the visit results, it could be seen that the aid pump machine from Japan in 2014 has very good quality. So, from this good quality, it is very possible to save in terms of maintenance costs and machine replacement.

"It's quite extraordinary, light maintenance, and not easy to rust. I think this is our record, that there is no need to be allergic to something that is expensive as long as it is of good quality and not easily damaged. This is what we really have to be a bit patient, to build all good but effective," she uttered.
