UI Students Plant 1,000 Mangrove Seeds on Tidung Island

Dozens of University of Indonesia's Student Executive Board (BEM UI) students who are currently running the UI Youth Environmental Action (UI YEA) program with Jakarta Environment Agency (LH) planted 1,000 mangrove seedlings on Tidung Island, South Thousand Islands.

He explained today's activities also support the establishment of Thousand Islands as one of National Tourism Strategic Areas in Indonesia.
The program demands tourism development from all sectors in order to improve the community's economy.
"This is a tourism selling point and an attraction for tourists to visit Thousand Islands," he explained.
Jakarta LH Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto conveyed his full support for this BEM UI activity. It is a form of implementing Environmental Large-Scale Social Collaboration (KSBB).
"This is a forum for cooperation that can produce solutions to various environmental problems," he added.
BEM UI 2023 Vice Chairwoman, Shifa Anindya Hartono expressed the UI YEA program is the result of collaboration between BEM UI and the Jakarta Government, which is attended by more than 50 UI students.
"Since the beginning BEM UI was formed, we have been committed to being proactive in making a real impact on the environment and society," she uttered.
BEM UI 2023 Social Environment Coordinator, Kevin Wisnumurthi mentioned since the beginning, planting mangrove seedlings was aimed to help preserve the mangrove forest ecosystem in Thousand Islands.
"Mangrove forests have various vital ecological functions such as shelter and foraging for various marine biota," he stated.
