10,000 Mangroves Planted in North Seribu Islands

As many as 10,000 mangrove trees are planted on the coast of the promontory bordering Kelapa and Harapan islands, North Seribu Islands.

This mangrove planting action is the result of synergy with community groups with Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore South East Sumatra (PHE OSES) and part of coastal area rehabilitation efforts.
Kelapa Island Urban Village Head, Muslim appreciated the planting action carried out by the Starfish Rural Conservation Extension Center (SPKP) and Elang Bondol SPKP with PHE OSES.

Starfish SPKP Chairperson, Iskandar revealed mangrove trees were planted as a green belt surrounding the island for the best defense against abrasion, seawater intrusion, and other functions. This plant could also absorb carbon (CO2) emissions in the air that other plant species have.
"Thank you to PHE OSES for giving us help and motivation. Let's look after, care for, and preserve this mangrove tree," he stated.
Communication, Relations, and CID Head for PHE OSES, Indra Darmawan explained that mangrove planting is a form of commitment and a work program in the environmental sector in Seribu Islands region.
"It aims to create sustainable ocean governance," he uttered.
He added the same action will also be realized on Sebira Island after Idul Fitri.
"Hopefully, the community can also continue to take care of the existing mangroves to help prevent abrasion and climate change," he hoped.
