High School Student Researches Benefits of Consuming 'Jamu'

The interest of a class XII student from National High Jakarta School (SMA), Charlize (16), in the traditional ingredients native to Indonesia, commonly called Jamu (traditional herbal drinks), is worth emulating.

Due to her curiosity, she researched to understand the benefits of consuming Jamu in the general public.

On the other hand, he often sees that many people around her, especially those from villages, like to consume Jamu to treat themselves when they are sick.
That's why, she researched more deeply regarding the practice of consuming Jamu and the benefits obtained for treatment or health.
"It aims to find out how widely people consume Jamu and whether it really has a healing effect like medicines in pharmacies or those prescribed by doctors," she explained.
Her research began by selecting several herbal ingredients derived from plants such as ginger, turmeric, honey, and lime.
The research focuses on the function of the natural contents of herbal plants for the body when consumed. It was then conducted by conducting random interviews with random people in Jakarta.
"I also interviewed professionals in the health sector because I wanted to know their opinion about the benefits of consuming Jamu for the wider community," she explained.
She felt satisfied, as based on the results of her research, Jamu did have an objective function in curing various diseases.
"Jamu has been proven to cure diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, and even cancer," she stated.
