Illegal, 45 Buildings in Sarua Connecting Channel Torn Down

Some 45 buildings standing atop the Sarua River Connecting Channel, RW 08, Pejaten Barat, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, demolished.

We demolish permanent and semi-permanent buildings today

Pejaten Barat Urban Village Head, Asep Umar said the demolishment was done to maximize the function of the channel in the rainy season.

"We demolish permanent and semi-permanent buildings today. They are in RT 02, 03, 04, 05, and 10/RW 07," he expressed, Tuesday (11/21).

He explained it has been carried out from November 21 to 23. It involved 250 joint personnel from PPSU, Satpol PP, SDA Sub-dept, and Bina Marga Sub-dept. assisted by National Army (TNI) and police.

Before being demolished, his sub-dept. had sent warning letters three times to the building owners.

"Thank God, some are willing to demolish their own buildings," he explained.

South Jakarta SDA Sub-dept. Head, Santo explained the demolishment also involved two units of excavators to the location.

"After it is done, the channel will be drained in parallel from upstream to downstream," he closed.
