S. Jakarta Keeps Optimizing Infrastructure Development to Overcome Floods

South Jakarta Mayor, Munjirin has said that the 2,400-meter-high water channels that use a box culvert.

He explained that the channel construction completed was conducted respectively, namely, on Jalan Asem Baris Raya with a length of 975 meters using a box culvert measuring 1.5x1.5 meters and Jalan KH Abdullah Syafe'i, Tebet Sub-district with a length of 702 meters using a box culvert measuring 2x2 meters.

Then channel on Jalan RA Kartini to Jalan Ciputat Raya, Kebayoran Lama Sub-district along 752 meters, divided into two segments. For segment one, the 658-meter-long channel was built using a 3x3-meter box culvert, and the remaining 94-meter-long channel was built using a 1.2x1.2-meter box culvert.

"The same program is also spotted on Jalan Kalibata Timur, Pancoran along 73 meters using a 2,5x2,5-meter box culvert," he explained.

According to him, the results of infrastructure development to deal with flooding were starting to show results. Areas prone to flooding no longer occur when it rains.

"Alhamdulillah (Thank God), we have completed programs one by one to overcome flooding. I've also checked the results in several RWs, especially in Pondok Pinang Urban Village, which has often been flooded since 2018, now there are almost no more," he explained.

He added the same effort would still be optimized in the next year, as there were still several road areas and residential areas prone to flooding.

"Especially for the area around AEON Tanjung Barat, construction efforts to anticipate flooding are still ongoing. Then, in Seskoal, Kebayoran Lama, suction pumps have been provided and henceforth the target for canal construction will be realized this year," he stated.
