E. Jakarta Deputy Mayor Leads Chili Planting at Lapan Urban Farming Complex

East Jakarta Deputy Mayor, Iin Mutmainah, led the activity of planting chilies simultaneously on the urban farming land at Lapan Complex RT 07/09, Pekayon Urban Village, Pasar Rebo, Friday (1/19).

Hope they can be harvested together by March

She said there were 4,380 chili seeds planted in 82 locations in East Jakarta today. Previously, 12,000 chili seeds had been planted with assistance from Bank Indonesia plus 26,000 seeding results. Hopefully, it could help meet the needs of chili in the community, as well as reduce the rate of inflation in Jakarta.

"All the chili seeds are planted spread across empty lands, urban farming areas, RPTRAs, and religious facilities. Hope they can be harvested together by March," she stated.

Simultaneous Chili Planting Conducted in 400 Locations Today

She explained the RW 09 Pekayon area was chosen as the center for implementing simultaneous chili planting, as it had received an award for the National Climate Village Program (Proklim) 2023.

Pasar Rebo Sub-district Head, Mujiono added the area of urban farming land planted with chilies in RT 07/09 reached 200 meters. The location is right on the west side of the main gate of the Lapan Complex. The land was used as a greenhouse area and is now being planted with 170 chili seedlings with assistance from the East Jakarta KPKP Sub-Agency.

"Today, in five sub-districts, we planted 20 chili seeds each," he stated.

RW 09 Pekayon Chairman, Mahfud the chili planting program was useful and helped the community meet their chili needs.

He hoped that the Kemuning Berseri farmer group which manages urban farming in their area could take good care of it. Thus, the results could be enjoyed together

"Hopefully, the chilies planted today can also be harvested ahead of Idul Fitri," he hoped.
