Demolition in Cipinang Riverbank Went Chaotic

The demolition towards 126 illegal buildings around Cipinang Riverbank, Cipinang Besar Selatan Urban Village (CBS), Jatinegara, East Jakarta, Thursday (4/9), ended chaotic. Some citizens were trying to protest the demolition by throwing stones and woods to the officers. 

Those illegal buildings should be demolished due to standing on the water channel

In the field, the officers had to secure 3 citizens who are allegedly the provocateur. Afterwards, these unidentified people then brought to the East Jakarta Metro Sector Police Headquarter. By doing so, the demolition could be re-continued using 2 heavy equipments. 

This Week, Buildings Along Cipinang Riverbank Demolished

As quoted by beritajakarta.com, the demolition involved by 300 joint personnel joint run smoothly. Suddenly they were attacked by teens of citizens when tried to demolish 30 buildings left. The citizens requested the demolition to be postponed until tomorrow. 

"Those illegal buildings should be demolished due to standing on the water channel," said East Jakarta Mayor, Bambang Musyawardhana. 

Musyawardhana explained the land which was formerly settled by citizens will be used as an outlet channel, connecting waterway from Ciliwung to East Flood Canal (KBT). 

"At this time, we have relocated 50 building owners to the CBS Flat, except the renters. This is because they are newcomers. It is prioritized for those who have Jakarta ID card," he expressed.

Head of Ciliwung-Cisadane Flood Control Office (BBWSCC), Iskandar added the Cipinang River will be widen from 21 to 30 meters. Then on the left and right sides, there will be an inspection road.
