It was stated by Regional Secretary's Governmental Assistant, Sigit Wijatmoko, while representing Acting Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono during National Mass Media Convention at Candi Bentar Auditorium, Ancol, North Jakarta.
The event which is initiated by Association of Indonesian Journalists (PWI) is as an effort to bring together various press stakeholders, from mass media entrepreneurs, government, to journalists.
National Press Day, Here is Message and Hope of PWI Jaya"Representing the people and the Jakarta Provincial Government, I would like to express my gratitude for the honor that has been given to Jakarta to once again host a series of activities for the 2024 National Press Day," he said as quoted in Jakarta Provincial Government's Press Release, Monday (2/19).
He added that the role of the press is very crucial in guarding democracy and leadership transition by presenting accurate and objective information amidst the rapid advances in technology and the current large wave of information. The synergy between the government and the media plays an important role in forming a democratic and enlightened society.
It is hoped that the media and all members of the press can provide credible and responsible information in conveying various government programs and channeling people's aspirations well.
After holding the status of National Capital, Jakarta will transform into a Global Business City. Hopefully this transformation can run well with the support of all city stakeholders, including members of the press.
"The press is not only telling information and stories, but can be a pillar of democracy that educates, enlightens and maintains the integrity of the nation amidst change. Hopefully the convention will be successful. Happy National Press Day. Always be successful, all members of the Indonesian press," he added.
Meanwhile, Communication and Informatics Minister, Budi Ari Setiadi, stated the government continues to strive to present affirmative policies, especially policies that can provide a fair playing field between local industry players and digital platform companies, to ensure that digital disruption does not erode the sustainability of industry players, but instead strengthens it.
The government is committed through the Draft of Presidential Regulation on the Responsibility of Digital Platforms for Qualified Journalism (Perpres Publisher Rights).
The follow-up after the ratification of the Draft of Presidential Decree on Publisher Rights by the President will be based on negotiations on cooperation between digital platforms and press companies, as well as the basis for cooperation between digital platforms and stakeholders to develop and innovate.
"The draft of Presidential Decree is intended to codify existing cooperation practices, encourage interaction between digital platforms and press companies in a more balanced manner, and provide opportunities for press companies regardless of their business scale to increase cooperation with digital platforms," he explained.
