Cakung Lama River Cleared from Waste

Personnel from the Waste Management Unit (UPS) under the Jakarta Environmental Agency's Water Agency clean up waste in the Cakung Lama River, precisely on the border of Pegangsaan Dua and Sukapura urban villages.

Cilincing Sub-district's Water Agency UPS Coordinator, Munawir said post-flood waste handling was focused on river flows that crossed RW 03, Pegangsaan Dua Urban Village and RW 10, Sukapura Urban Village.
"15 personnel were deployed to clean up waste, especially waste that get stuck under bridges," he expressed, Friday (3/1).

"Most waste collected are wood, plastic, leftover food, and drink packaging to used clothes," he explained.
According to him, the waste handling was done to anticipate inundation and flooding.
"We keep ensuring that the micro and macro channels are clean from waste. It aims to prevent overflowing water from the channel and river," he added.
Because of heavy rain yesterday, the rain inundated seven RTs in RW 03, Pegangsaan Dua Urban Village, and RW 10, Sukapura Urban Village.
"The water level reaches 40 centimeters. It has receded now," he added.
One of the residents from RT 03/03, Pegangsaan Dua Urban Village, Yuni (44) admitted inundation in her region was completely receded at around 3 AM.
"I appreciate the UPS Water Agency and PPSU personnel who have worked hard to clean up the waste after the inundation," he uttered.
Hopefully, it could be done immediately by raising the sheet pile of the Cakung Lama River.
"If the sheet pile is higher, it will prevent overflowing waters from Cakung Lama River," he uttered.
