North Jakarta - Rumah Sosial Kutub Launches Sekolah Tersenyum Program

The North Jakarta administration together with Rumah Sosial Kutub, launched the Sekolah Tersenyum program (Accept Alms Used Cooking Oil for Them) at SDN 09 Sunter Jaya, Tanjung Priok, Tuesday (5/28).
Hopefully, this program can be implemented in all schools in North Jakarta
North Jakarta Mayor, Ali Maulana Hakim said the Sekolah Tersenyum program is part of project based learning for students to develop a spirit of caring for the environment, social and religious matters from an early age.
"This excellent and sustainable program aims to handle used cooking oil waste in every region," he expressed, Tuesday (5/28).
School Library Training Held on Panggang IslandWith this program, students were invited to carry out alms by collecting used cooking waste from their homes.
"Starting from this small thing, we can show our concern for the environment. This smiling school is a development of the PKK and RPTRA programs which have been running since 2021," he explained.
According to him, there were already 17 schools and five madrasas implementing this effort.
"The school has managed to collect 6,768 liters of used cooking oil. Hopefully, this program can be implemented in all schools in North Jakarta," he explained.
He added the proceeds from the school's collection of used cooking oil could be used for various social activities, such as compensation for mustahik, school introductions and the fulfillment of learning assets.
"Insya Allah, this program continues to develop in all schools, we will hold monitoring and evaluation. In the future, we can hold a competition to motivate them to take part in this Mijel alms program," he added.
Rumah Sosial Kutub Executive Director, Suhito expressed the Sekolah Tersenyum program was aimed to be an educational medium for instilling the values of healthy living, clean living, and a blessed life in students, as well as creating independence for schools in carrying out other social actions.
To change behavioral patterns in people's lives, it is most appropriate to start from the education sector, because schools are the spearhead for raising awareness and concern for the environment.
"Our challenges in the future are related to energy, food and climate change," he explained.
This program also encourages improving the quality of the learning curriculum, because teachers and students are trained to increase creativity, educational awareness, and leadership. Aside that, the used cooking alms program is in line with the Adiwiyata School program.
"Thank you to the North Jakarta administration for supporting this activity. Hopefully, this program can continue to be implemented and can become literacy for students and teachers to always create a healthier, cleaner and more blessed life," he hoped.
SDN Sunter Jaya 09 Principal, Sarwoto uttered it had been implemented at his school every Thursday. Later on, the class with the most collections would be awarded.
This program also becomes a literacy medium for students to convert them into candles and soap products, thus they have more economic value.
"We have donated this used cooking oil waste three times to the Rumah Sosial Kutub. We provide donations to our underprivileged and other mustahik students," he stated.
