Welcoming Idul Adha 1445 Hijri, the Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting the process of slaughtering and distributing qurban (sacrificial) animal meat to run smoothly and be executed in an environmentally friendly manner.

Hence, Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono accompanied by City Secretary, Agus Setyono, inspected the Animal Slaughterhouse (RPH) belonging to Perumda Dharma Jaya, Cakung, East Jakarta, Friday (6/14).

On that occasion, the Acting Governor also handed over a limousine qurban cow to be slaughtered at the Dharma Jaya RPH. Then he also inspected the readiness for slaughtering, ensuring the health of the qurban animals, as well as supporting facilities in order to smoothen the process of slaughtering and distribution.

"Today's visit aims to see the readiness of Perumda Dharma Jaya in terms of providing qurban animals, slaughtering facilities, and handing over qurban animals. The number of officers who will assist with the slaughtering of qurban animals is 1,253 people, including officers from stakeholders and other regional apparatus organizations (OPD)," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta Government's press release.

Those qurban animals will be slaugthered on June 17, 2024, and will be distributed to overcome the problem of stunting and social institutions.

He also wanted to distribute qurban animals in an environmentally friendly manner, such as using containers that can be used repeatedly.

Jakarta Food, Maritime and Agricultural Security Agency (KPKP) Head, Suharini Eliawati, said that her party had held supervision and monitoring of health examination for qurban animals at the sacrificial animal shelter (TPnHK).

"Until Thursday (6/13), the health examination was done in five administrative city areas of Jakarta spread over 1,061 TPnHK, with a total of 68,560 animals examined. These animals are from East Java, Central Java, West Java, Yogyakarta, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara," she uttered.

She added personnel had carried out surveillance or monitoring of Anthrax disease at TPnHK. As a result, 226 blood test samples were declared free of anthrax based on laboratory test results.

"It continues along with the arrival of other qurban animals entering Jakarta. It has been ongoing since early June 2024 to ensure the health and suitability of the qurban animals. It will continue until D+3 (tasyrik day). Certainly, all qurban animals in animal shelters have had their health checked and are in accordance with Islamic law," she asserted.

It was recorded that 81,070 qurban animals entered Jakarta, with 70,126 of them being slaughtered in Jakarta. Meanwhile, in 2024, qurban animals entering Jakarta are predicted to increase by 2.5 percent, with the potential for animals slaughtered in Jakarta to increase by 1.5 percent.
