Jakarta Provincial Government through Jakarta Culture Agency presents 'Museum Knowledge Exchange Program' as an effort to increase the capabilities of museum professionals in Jakarta. This program collaborates with Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Indonesia, Timor-Leste, ASEAN, Dutch Cultural Heritage Agency (RCE), and Reinwardt Academy.
This program allows the exchange of ideas and experiences
Jakarta Culture Agency Head, Iwan Henry Wardhana, said this program is the second workshop held by the Jakarta Regional Cooperation Bureau and the Jakarta Provincial Culture Agency. It is hoped that the program will provide a new perspective for the museum's public programs, especially with the family as the basis of education.
"This program allows the exchange of ideas and experiences to strengthen the museum sector that can be implemented in Jakarta. This activity also facilitates peer-to-peer exchanges to overcome current challenges through creative workshops, as well as creating a modern image for museums in Jakarta to attract visitors and identify potential collaboration between museums in the Netherlands and Jakarta," Iwam said, as quoted from Jakarta Provincial Government's press release, Monday (7/1).
Disbud Holds Curatorial Training for Museum ProfessionalsIwan added, this multi-year collaboration has been ongoing from October 2023 to October 2024 involving main partners from the Netherlands and Indonesian institutions. There are three training sessions during the program that focus on strategic museum management, museum programs for families, and museum collection assessment.
"In the first session, thirty participants from nineteen museums, cultural units and galleries formulated museum management strategies using a business model canvas. This session emphasized the importance of establishing a clear vision and mission, aligning staff roles, and integrating contemporary marketing strategies.
"The second session in July discussed intergenerational learning, family programming, and effective content delivery in a museum context. Participants will design family-oriented exhibits and programs, with the goal of transforming the museum into a space that attract families," he added.
The third training session is scheduled for October 2024 which will discuss assessing museum collections. Experts from RCE will guide participants on collection priorities, integrating public opinion, and utilizing objects for hands-on educational programming.
Deputy Head of Mission of the Dutch Embassy, Adrian Palm, added that this program is realized as a commitment to support the Indonesian cultural heritage sector by sharing expertise in preserving, managing and exhibiting shared cultural heritage.
"Through this program, we aim to share expertise and encourage a dynamic exchange of ideas, as well as encourage a shared interest in recognizing historical complexity and creating new opportunities for cultural dialogue," Adrian said.
