50 Residents Participate in Fishery Product Processing Training

Some 50 residents living on Kelapa Island, Kelapa Dua Island, and Harapan Island took part in fishery product processing training held by the Seribu Islands Food Security, Maritime and Fisheries Sub-agency (KPKP) from Tuesday (7/9) to Friday (7/12) at Kelapa Dua Island Sekaya Maritim.

Seribu Islands KPKP Sub-agency Head, Nurliati explained the training was to broaden the knowledge of participants consisting of assisted business actors, TP PKK, Dasawisma, Jumantik, and RPTRA administrators.
"It aims to push the processing of healthy and nutritious food made from fish, to meet and improve family nutrition as well as prevent stunting," she expressed, Tuesday (7/9).

During the training, participants would be accompanied by professional chefs in their fields.
"Participants are trained in various fish dishes, for example Samosa, Woku, Nugget, Otak-otak, Satay, etc. So, it's not just fried or grilled, but they can be more creative and skilled," he explained.
To encourage participant enthusiasm, his party would provide a set of cooking utensils after the training.
"It will become a routine agenda and sustainable," he explained.
Kelapa Island Urban Village Head, Muslim, welcomed this activity positively because fishing is the main livelihood of island residents. Hopefully, residents could process fish into delicious dishes.
"They can easily apply this cooking knowledge in their own homes," he added.
One of the residents from Harapan Island, Laili (36) admitted she was grateful to take part in the training, because she learned many new dishes on the menu.
"Very exciting, because the chef is very professional," she stated.
