Jakarta Judo Exceeds PON XXI Gold Medal Target

Jakarta Judo Team successfully added to its medal collection at PON XXI Aceh - North Sumatra 2024 by winning two gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal at the match held at Syiah Kuala University Student Arena, Banda Aceh, Wednesday (9/11).

So far we have been able to collect six gold medals

Gold medals were achieved by Chandra Kurnia in the men's -73kg category and Gerard C George Pantaow in the men's -81kg category. While silver medals were won by Irene Amarensi Pattipeme in the women's -63kg category and Tika Syafitri in the women's -70kg category. Dewi Shinta presented a bronze medal in the women's -57kg category.

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency Headm Andri Yansyah appreciated the achievements of Jakarta Judo athletes. He assessed, the target given by KONI was five gold medals, and so far the team is on the right track.

"The target for the judo branch requested by KONI is five gold medals, so far we have been able to collect six gold medals with the results of yesterday's match. Tomorrow, there will be three and one more team, hopefully from the four, we can get two more at least. But because we see the chance that tomorrow there is still a final, Insya Allah (God willing), we will add another gold medal," he explained.

He also seemed to be motivating the athletes before the match. He asked the judo athletes who will compete tomorrow to stay focused, concentrated, patient, and calm.

"The most important thing is not to be afraid of big names," he uttered.

He cited how Chandra Kurnia, who was appearing in PON for the first time, had to face a tough opponent in the final, a West Java athlete who had won PON three times and had even won the SEA Games.

"I instilled that we are the same, have the same technique, and the important thing is to be patient and calm, and look for opportunities. Insya Allah, I got it," he uttered.

With high enthusiasm and motivation, the Jakarta Judo team is expected to continue to increase its medal tally and achieve its set targets.

"PON XXI 2024 event is proof that with determination and hard work, achievements can be achieved," he said.
