C. Jakarta TP PKK Plants Red Onion in 69 Locations Simultaneously

Central Jakarta TP PKK, Thursday (9/12), planted red onion simultaneously in 69 locations of eight sub-districts. Symbolically, the activity was centered at Central Jakarta Mayor Office Rooftop.

Central Jakarta TP PKK Chairwoman, Ucu Jamilah, said the planting was run by PKK cadre, Dasawisma, RT/RW caretaker and RPTRA caretaker by utilizing public space and other land in urban villages.

"Hopefully we can harvest them in three months," she said.

Jakarta TP PKK's Working Group III of Family Security Chairwoman, Khomariah Maruloh, appreciated this program much. She assessed this program is good to suppress inflation rate in Jakarta especially related to chili and onion prices.

"The prices will go up significantly in special moment such as Christmas and New Year," she stated.

Central Jakarta Mayor, Dhany Sukma, stated red onion could be a choice as Central Jakarta contribution in suppressing inflation, as well as preparing food security ahead of Christmas and New Year.

"It gives contribution to suppress inflation if we plant in big scale," he stated.

Dhany also invited residents to utilize their yard land to plant various productive plants. According to him, urban farming currently allows limited land to be planted with various productive trees such as Chili, Water Spinach, Onion, Lime, Lime and Eggplant.

Meanwhile, Central Jakarta Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency Head, Penty Yunesi Pudyastuti, explained her side together with PKK team totally planted 10 kilogram of red onion by using used drinking water gallon.

"We use reusable containers. There were 20 gallons, in each gallon contains three cloves of red onions. The onions came directly from Brebes," she explained.
