PON XXI Temporary Standings: Jakarta Continues to Shadow East Java

The Jakarta contingent continues to show its best performance and never-give-up spirit at PON XXI Aceh - North Sumatra 2024. Until 8 AM, Friday (9/13), Jakarta contingent's gold medal haul placed it in second place in the temporary standings with 62 gold medals, 62 silver medals and 55 bronze medals. Meanwhile, East Java is in the top position with 64 gold medals, 55 silver medals, and 55 bronze medals.

The most important thing is to be calm and patient

Jakarta Youth and Sports Agency Head, Andri Yansyah delivered the results of the interim evaluation of Jakarta contingent.

"This is a separate note for us to always provide motivation to never give up. The most important thing is to be calm and patient," he expressed, Friday (9/13).

However, he remains optimistic about Jakarta's chances of catching up with East Java.

"In overall, the total number of new matches is around 25 to 26 percent. There are still 75 percent of matches that are still being held in the preliminary round, quarter finals, or semifinals. We're still confident that we can catch up," he explained.

He also highlighted the development of the medal tally that continues to improve. From initially being 15 gold medals behind East Java, the gap had now been closed to just a few gold medals. With many matches still remaining, he was confident that Jakarta has great potential to win more gold and seize the top position from East Java.

He asserted strong motivation and mentality are the keys for Jakarta athletes to continue to strive to achieve the best results at PON XXI.

"Jakarta continues to close the gap. Hopefully, we can lead at the top of the medal standings and maintain it until we become the overall champion," he hoped.
