Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono, emphasized the Jakarta Provincial Government's commitment to strengthening piped water services to reduce groundwater use.
Residents need not worry. In 2030, we can handle clean water
He emphasized it after he inspected the installation of water pipes in residents' homes, Jalan Waradan, Pondok Kopi Urban Village, and the construction of Buaran III PAM Jaya Water Treatment Plant (IPA), Jalan Inspeksi Kalimalang, East Jakarta, Monday (9/23) afternoon.
"We visit two locations, the first is the connection of the IPA for households that previously did not have piped water, now it has been connected by PAM Jaya. Then, the second location is the construction of Buaran III IPA," he expressed, Tuesday (9/24).
Clean Water and Piped Drinking Services in Jakarta Optimistic to Reach 100 Percent in 2030He explained that the IPA connection for households not only helps people get clean water but also reduces water usage and will also impact flood control efforts in Jakarta.
"PAM Jaya together with the Jakarta Government continues to strive to overcome flooding caused by the decline in groundwater levels," he explained.
He admitted improvements are still needed in all aspects of the use of piped water so that the reach of piped water services is wider.
Therefore, since two years ago, PAM Jaya has continued to improve and repair the piping. Also increase the raw water capacity in two locations, namely the Cilincing Reservoir with a 20 million liters capacity for the catchment area around North Jakarta, and the Pondok Kopi Reservoir with a 5 million liters capacity for the catchment area around East Jakarta.
He hoped that in 2030, clean water coverage could now be provided to all Jakarta residents. By doing so, Jakarta will not experience a clean water crisis in the future.
Regarding the continuation of the Buaran III IPA project, he hoped that the construction could be completed around April or May 2025. Thus, the results can increase clean water services to the community.
"Residents need not worry. In 2030, we can handle clean water or the stock is there. This is a national strategic project that we must implement," he asserted.
PAM Jaya President Director, Arief Nasruddin uttered his party continues to make new piped water connections for households in the eastern and northern areas of Jakarta.
Thus far, the total number of new connections that have been connected with the assistance of Public Works and Public Housing Ministry (PUPR) is 11,455 house connections.
By the end of 2024, new piped water connections would cover 16,000 residents' homes. Apart from that, he had also connected new connections, totaling 32,000 household connections to date.
"There is still quite a lot of homework to do. But, today, I want to take him (Mr. Govenor) to see the infrastructure that we have prepared, including the infrastructure that has been completed by the PUPR Ministry," he explained.
He added IPA Buaran III has 3,000 liters per second capacity and its construction is still on track. Overall, the work progress has touched 73 percent.
In West Jakarta, he would maximize the operation of the Pejompongan IPA in Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta. The services in South Jakarta, his party built the Pesanggrahan IPA and the Ciliwung IPA.
"For Pesanggrahan IPA, it will operate in 2025 and Ciliwung IPA in 2026. Hopefully, there won't be too many obstacles, thus piped water services can reach 100 percent of the people of Jakarta by 2030," he stated.
