We want it as primary transportation
Commission B Chairman, Nova Harivan Paloh, said the MRT project construction is hoped to assist in overcoming traffic jam in Jakarta.
DPRD to Discuss Revision of MRT Jakarta Bylaw Next Week"The MRT Phase 2 has been dreamed of since 1986 by Jakarta residents. This will be our transportation to reduce traffic jam," he said, at Visitor Center MRT Jakarta, Monas, Gambir, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (11/5).
Nova explained that congestion needs to be resolved immediately through the availability of fast, safe, and comfortable public transportation.
He requested the public to switch from using private vehicles to public transportation to help reduce congestion and air pollution in Jakarta.
"MRT, LRT, and Transjakarta. I wonder how those three are connected well, or integrated," he added.
According to him, the MRT Phase 2A development project has shown significant progress. He also supports the development of the MRT network further.
"MRT's Lebak Bulus to HI route is already helpful. But it would be better if it is continued with next phases," he continued.
Related to the revision of Regional Regulation (Perda) No 9/2018 about the increase in the authorized capital of PT MRT Jakarta, Nova admitted it is needed for the network development from Kota to Ancol and from east to west (Medan Satria-Tomang).
Meanwhile, PT MRT Jakarta Director, Tuhiyat, hoped the MRT could become a mainstay transportation for Jakarta residents.
It is hoped that it will encourage people to switch to use public transportation such as MRT that has been integrated with other transportation to reduce congestion and pollution.
"We want it as primary transportation, not an alternative ones. MRT uses carbon-free emissions," he stated.
Tuhiyat explained that the progress of the MRT Phase 2A Bundaran HI-Kota project, which is six kilometers long, has reached around 42 percent. Meanwhile, the MRT construction from Bundaran HI to Harmoni has reached around 80 percent.
"MRT Phase 2 is targeted to complete in 2029 fully," he added.
As for information, the project reviewing was also attended by Jakarta City Council's Commission B Coordinator, Basri Baco; Commission B Vice Chairman, Wahyu Dewanto; and Commission B members, Muhammad Taufik Zoelkifli, Muhammad Al Fatih, Ade Suherman, Ryan Kurnia Ar Rahman, Syahroni, and Francine Eustacia.
The MRT Jakarta Phase 2 development project stretches approximately 11.8 kilometers from the Bundaran HI area to West Ancol. Phase 2 will be built in two stages, namely Phase 2A and Phase 2B.
Phase 2A consists of seven underground stations (Thamrin, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, and Kota) with a total track length of approximately 5.8 kilometers.
Then, Phase 2B consists of two underground stations (Mangga Dua and Ancol) and one depot in Ancol Marina with a total track length of approximately six kilometers.
