Commission B Legislator Urges People to Reduce Plastic Packaging
"It's a good effort and Jakarta Provincial Government is trying to take a persuasive approach rather than just imposing a fine," she said, Monday (11/11).
She invites government and other officials to start setting an example to the public by implementing waste sorting and reducing the plastic packaging use.
"We can start by not using a plastic drink bottles in our activities. Using glasses or tumblers should be better," she added.
According to her, government has conducted socialization and education related with waste management.
"Assertive step is needed to increase public awareness for not littering," she continued.
She explained the amount of waste from Jakarta that is dumped to Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Management Site (TPST), Bekasi, West Java reaches more than 7,000 tons per day.
Francine suggests Jakarta Provincial Government to run waste management that can change it into paving block.
"The method has been running in East Nusa Tenggara and is used to construct education facility," she stated.
