Council: Residents must Be Aware of Hydrometeorological Disasters

Jakarta DPRD Commission D Legislator, Ghozi Zulazmi calls on the public to remain alert to the potential for hydrometeorological disasters.

This is our concern to prepare early anticipation

According to him, the early warnings issued by the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), and Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Agency were very helpful for the residents in dealing with potential disasters.

"The problem of high rainfall is our concern to prepare early anticipation. Things that could happen in the future are flooding, tidal water, and also fallen trees," he expressed, Wednesday (1/15).

Therefore, he asked the related regional apparatus organization (OPD) to keep updating weather conditions and water levels, as well as provide accurate information to the public. It was also important to ensure that various flood control equipment was ready.

"The sluice gate must always be monitored so that when one side is high, it can be opened, we must be alert," he explained.

He also highlighted the important role of society in protecting the environment and participating in disaster mitigation efforts. By so, residents must always be alert, prepare emergency equipment, and keep their surroundings clean.

"Of course, we keep monitoring the condition of the villages and also the water channels," he added.

He appreciated the Jakarta Government's efforts in handling the recent floods. He also emphasized the importance of continuing to improve preparedness and coordination between agencies.

"Hopefully things like this can continue and keep providing the best service to the community regarding infrastructure," he stressed.
