Jakarta Provincial Government and KKP Strengthen Marine Space Supervision

Jakarta Provincial Government together with Ministry of Marine and Fishery (KKP) has measured the mysterious sea fence length found in front of reclamation Island C.

We are still looking for the fence owner

The bamboo fence lenght is about 500 meter long as it was measured by using drone. The mysterious fence owner remains unknown until now.

Jakarta Food Security, Marine and Agriculture (KPKP) Agency Head, Suharini Eliawati said her side has cooperated with KKP to ensure wether the fence has legal license or not.

"Marine space utilization's license is under the Central Government's authority. We are still looking for the fence owner," she said, Thurday (1/16).

According to her marine space utilization that includes fence installation must be based on applicable law.

She added that the Harmony of Marine Space Utilization Activities (KKPRL) and related business permits are needed for sea fence installation as the sea is an open access common property.

In order to avoid similar incidents to recur in the future, she assessed that supervision and law enforcement must be strengthened.

"Surely the agency together with KKP will take firm action based on the applicable law if the fence is illegal. We'll also strengthen the cross agency cooperation to prevent similar incident," she explaained.
