PPSU and SDA Quickly Handle Landslide in Cibubur

The landslide that eroded a house on Jalan Garuda IV, RT 12/RW 03 in Cibubur, Ciracas, East Jakarta, Thursday (2/6), is seen being handled by eight PPSU personnel and two Water Resources (SDA) task force members.

Many debris cover the channels and can cause flooding during heavy rain

This incident occurred on Tuesday (2/4) around 1:30 AM, during heavy rain.

Field observations show that the kitchen of this house, measuring about 4x3 meters, has been completely eroded by a landslide, leaving it level with the ground. The depth of the landslide reaches three meters.

Increasing Rainfall, BPBD Warns of Potential Landslides

Cibubur Urban Village Economy and Development Section Head, Heru Kristianto said personnel were deployed to clear the debris from the building that covered the Cipinang River channel. It is targeted for completion in two days ahead.

"Many debris cover the channels and can cause flooding during heavy rain," he explained.

They have coordinated with the related agencies for further handling. Thus far, the personnel are measuring the eroded area and the affected area next to it.

To prevent similar incident, wooden piles would be attached in the area along with stone gabions.

A Homeowner, Yanto, stated that at the time of the incident, he and his family were sound asleep. Suddenly, the back part of his house collapsed down to the bottom of the Cipinang River.

"We were sleeping at that time when suddenly there was a rumbling sound. In fact, our house collapsed due to a landslide," he admitted.

There were no casualties or injuries because the family was sleeping in the middle and front rooms. However, the bathroom and kitchen floors sank about 10-15 centimeters, causing the floors to tilt and be prone to landslides.

Allegedly, the landslide occurred because the riverbank does not have a retaining wall like in other areas. As a result, the soil contour was unstable. When the water flow was high, it caused the retaining wall to be gradually eroded and washed away the back part of the house.

RT 12/03 Cibubur Chairman, Sudirman hoped that the incident could be handled quickly to prevent further landslides.

"This is the first time this has occurred and hopefully it can be handled quickly," he hoped.
