The Jakarta Bina Marga Agency is about to arrange sidewalks and its facilities in four locations this year with the aim of enhancing safety and comfort for pedestrians while also supporting Jakarta's vision as a Global City.
We want to create friendly infrastructure
Jakarta Bina Marga Agency Head, Heru Suwondo said this arrangement would adopt the 'Complete Street' concept to enhance the comfort and safety of pedestrians and other road users.
"We want to create friendly infrastructure through the integrated and sustainable arrangement of sidewalks in line with the 'Complete Street' concept that has been realized in various major cities around the world," he expressed, Tuesday (2/11).
Disrupting Pedestrians, Street Vendors along Jalan Madya DisciplinedHe explained the Complete Street concept is a planning and design approach for streets that ensures safe access for all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and public transport users of all ages and backgrounds.
"This approach also emphasizes the needs of groups such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and communities. Sidewalks designed with this concept not only support pedestrian mobility but also integrate with mass public transportation, such as LRT Jabodebek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi), Transjakarta, and train," he explained.
He explained the sidewalk would have varied width following existing conditions and would not occupy the roadway.
"For instance, if the existing area is several meters, we will adjust it following the existing width," he explained.
He emphasized the importance of organizing the sidewalks in line with the Integrated Utility Network (SJUT) work.
"This work should ideally coincide with the SJUT project. For instance, if we are building a sidewalk on Jalan MT Haryono, we should also build a utility manhole there. So later, the utility cables will be relocated underground, and the sidewalk will be in good condition," he added.
Here are four locations for sidewalk arrangement and its facilities:
1. Blok M (continued) includes Jalan Falatehan I and Jalan Falatehan side of Blok M Terminal
2. Jalan Mangga Besar Raya
3. Jalan Prof Dr Soepomo and its surroundings include Jalan Soepomo, part of Jalan Saharjo, and Jalan Abdullah Syafei on the north side leading to Tebet Train Station.
4. Fatmawati Intersection includes Jalan Fatmawati, part of Jalan TB Simatupang, and Jalan RA Kartini.
