No Tolerance for Tanah Abang Street Vendors, Ahok Says

Approaching Ramadan, the street vendors in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, back to open their stall on the road. However, the city administration will not give tolerance to them, as they are disrupting road users and causing traffic congestion.
Jakarta Governor, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) said his party will crack down on those street vendors who are still recklessly selling on the road. Satpol PP along with Jakarta Transportation Department have also instructed to control the Tanah Abang Market.

He claimed,his party will not provide any shelters for the vendors. Considering, the merchandise supplies are from the vendors inside the stall. "The merchandise supplier is from vendors inside . Automatically, they need to put the agent outside as well. So, it should be dealt firmly," he expressed.
To give deterrent effect, street vendors' merchandise will be confiscated and cannot be redeemed. All this time, the raid seems not effective as the merchandise redeemed by low price. "I've told, if it's war, it should be firm. We will not return the merchandise. Just destroy it," he asserted.
As known, Tanah Abang street vendors, Central Jakarta, back to sell on the road ahead of ramadan. It makes congestion around the location is getting worse. Last year, ahead of Eid ul Fitr, hundreds of street vendors had been relocated to Tanah Abang Block G Market. Yet, they prefer to sell on the road with excuse of deserted of customers.
