Deputy Govt Rano: Meat Stocks Secured Up to Ramadhan

Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, has announced that the availability of meat in Jakarta is still sufficient ahead of Ramadhan and Idulfitri. He made this statement when he checked the cold storage of Perumda Dharma Jaya, Jalan Raya Penggilingan, Cakung, East Jakarta, Saturday (2/22).

"I've assigned a task to focus on food supply in Jakarta in facing Ramadhan and Idulfitri This is crucial for us to maintain food security," he stated.

He was even grateful, as the meat supply exceeds what is necessary to maintain market availability. This was believed to have an impact on price stability in the market.

"Alhamdulillah (thank God), I am not saying the quantity of meat is surplus but more than Jakarta's needs. That makes us safe," he explained.

He said food price hikes were unavoidable ahead of the upcoming Ramadhan. However, he ensured the Jakarta Government would keep maintaining price hike in the market.

"This is where our function as a regional government lies. Because we also have a duty to maintain regional inflation," he asserted.

In his visit, he also admitted that he had just found out that the cold storage owned by Perumda Dharma Jaya also stores chicken and fish. Hence, he was optimistic that the basic needs for animal protein of the community during Ramadhan and Idulfitri could be met.

He also received input on the additional cold storage needs due to the increased demand for animal protein in line with the growing population of Jakarta and its surroundings.

Therefore, he wanted all related parties to be open in expressing any issues and needs so that the issue could be resolved before Ramadan.

"There has been no price hike until today. Insya Allah (God willing), we're still selling at normal prices," he added.

Perumda Dharma Director, Raditya Endra Budiman ensured that the price of meat sold was still below market price.

He cited, the rear leg of beef is priced at around Rp 115,000 to 120,000 and the rear leg between Rp 105,000 to 115,000. Then the price of buffalo meat products is pegged at around Rp 90,000

"Our stock here now is 300 tons and there will also be 300 tons in the future. There will also be products from cooperation between regions, cooperation with sister cities and also with Australia. Hope the needs will be met," he closed.
