Jakarta Literacy Movement Expected to Have Positive Impacts on Families

Jakarta Library and Archive Agency (Dispusip) organized the Jakarta Literacy Movement event at Marunda Public Housing and RPTRA Gabus Pucung, Cilincing, North Jakarta, as an effort to promote residents' interest in reading.

The Jakarta Literacy Movement is a part of an education and empowerment program supporting the development of people's literacy and early reading habits.

Jakarta Dispusip Head, Syaefuloh Hidayat stated, this movement aims to introduce and foster interest in reading from an early age and raise awareness of the positive impact of literacy for families.

In line with the Jakarta Governor's direction, he added, the movement encourages children to learn reading, while enjoying the learning process. The goal is for Jakarta's children to have a learner's instinct, supporting Jakarta as a Global City.

"We also involve parents to give an understanding that good literacy will have a positive impact on the family, both in economic and social sectors," he said, Monday (2/24).

Children and parents participated in various interesting literacy activities at the launch of Jakarta Literacy Movement campaign at Marunda Public Housing and RPTRA Gabus Pucung, Cilincing.

The event featured a range of engaging activities, including flash mob, children's story stage with themes of honesty and enthusiasm for learning, Betawi dance performances, children's poetry reading, MSME bazaar, drawing and coloring activities for students at all levels, digital marketing workshop for MSMEs, family archive administration services, and free health check-ups and consultations.

Promoting #DariBacaTataJakarta, the Jakarta Literacy Movement at RPTRA Gabus Pucung pioneers a year-round literacy campaign across RPTRAs in Jakarta.

"Not only campaigning for literacy, this movement also aims to strengthen relationships between residents and promote RPTRA as an easily accessible third space that can be used by public to socialize and grow," he explained.

North Jakarta Mayor, Ali Maulana Hakim assessed that the Jakarta Literacy Movement is a positive activity needed by North Jakartans. Through this initiative, he expected residents to better understand the benefits of literacy for their families' future.

Moreover, residents can easily access reading books from mobile libraries and libraries in RPTRA, one of which is located in RPTRA Gabus Pucung.

"This activity can be a great event that unites Marunda Public Housing residents who are known for being heterogeneous and having diverse backgrounds," he conveyed.
