SDA Agency Intensifies River Dredging to Decrease Flood Risks

Jakarta Provincial Government through Water Resources Agency is about to intensify the dredging of rivers, reservoirs, and channels even though there are problems. The main problem is the heavy equipment have difficulty in accessing the area.

We will use lighter equipment

Acting Jakarta Water Resource Agency, Ika Agustin Ningrum admitted her side has prepared solution to overcome the problems.

"We will use lighter equipment, or even the work to be run manually by the personnel if needed," she said, Wednesday (2/28).

She added that several locations have their own challenges, such as on Bokor River, North Jakarta. There are many buildings on the riverbank. This condition narrows access for heavy equipment and slows down the work process.

"We must demolish the building first before continuing the work," she added.

Related with the disposal of dredged mud, the agency has prepared location in dumping site Ancol. The location is chosen to ensure the disposal process is carried out in accordance with environmental standards and does not disrupt the surrounding ecosystem.

Ika continued that the agency remains commit to run the work to ensure all rivers, reservoirs, and channels in Jakarta function optimally, especially in facing in the rainy season.

"The agency remains commit to intensify the work by solving the problem exists to maintain flood handling infrastructure in Jakarta run optimally," she stated.
