Jakarta Deputy Governor, Rano Karno, visited the residential area of RW 05, Kampung Melayu Urban Village, and the inlet of the Ciliwung River to the East Flood Canal, Jalan Otista Raya, Bidara Cina Urban Village, Monday (3/3).
Mr. Governor ordered me to come here while he went to another location
His visit is part of an assessment of areas affected by flooding from the Ciliwung River and also follows the Governor's order. The results of this assessment will be taken to be discussed in a coordination meeting to address the flood issues.
"Mr. Governor ordered me to come here while he went to another location. After this, we will have a meeting to address the flood," he expressed, Monday (3/3).
Kampung Melayu Flood Victims Evacuated to Two Safe LocationsAccording to him, the meeting to be held at Jakarta City Hall would involve the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). The aim was for the Jakarta Government to obtain information and understanding of the weather and potential rainfall that might occur over the next week.
He admitted the description of weather potential from BMKG would be the basis for the handling that would be conducted by the Jakarta Government. Thus, the impact of flooding, especially in the areas along the Ciliwung River, was expected to be minimized.
He added the Jakarta area, as the estuary of 13 rivers, has a more complex water management system than Banten Province. Moreover, the situation is exacerbated by the narrowing of several rivers, such as the Ciliwung River, which has reduced from about 50 meters to 20-30 meters in width.
He asserted, addressing the issue of flooding in Jakarta is one of the Governor focuses. Therefore, as one of the priority programs in their first 100 days in office, they were concentrating on dredging all the rivers and reservoirs in Jakarta.
Dredging aims to deepen rivers and reservoirs to increase water capacity during heavy rain or flooding from upstream.
"If you want it to be ideal, it must be enlarged and the width must be the same for all. But, this takes a long time and must be done together with the center and regions, it can't just be done in Jakarta," he closed.
