16 Teams Enliven Beduk Festival in Central Jakarta

Some 16 representative teams from eight sub-districts will compete in the Beduk Festival drumming competition at the Central Jakarta city level from Thursday (3/6) to Friday (3/7).
The two best teams will represent Central Jakarta at the provincial level event which will be held on March 14
Central Jakarta Culture Sub-agency Head, Muhammad Nurdin said this annual routine event is one of the flagship events held every Ramadhan.
Of the 16 teams, the best five will be selected to receive trophies and coaching money. Further, two of the best five will represent Central Jakarta in the provincial level event, March 14 at Lapangan Banteng, Gambir.

Central Jakarta Mayor, Arifin explained that this Bedug Festival is an effort to preserve the nation's cultural heritage.
"The beating of the drum to signal the start of prayer time is a cultural heritage that exists not only in Jakarta, but also in all corners of the country," he explained.
He hoped that the team that represents Central Jakarta at the provincial level would be able to show off their creative art of beating the drums that is pleasant to hear and captivating.
"Hopefully, we can win the overall championship at the provincial Beduk Festival later," he hoped.
