City Ensures Residents Impacted by Rorotan RDF Well Handled

Jakarta Provincial Government quickly responds complaints from residents around the Rorotan Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) by emptying the garbage and moving the bunker to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Facility (TPST).

Jakarta Environmental Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto admitted his side has run the Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung's order to empty the bunker and move the garbage to Bantargebang TPST.

"The garbage at the old bunker by 800 tons and RDF products by 600 tons were already move. It aims to reduce the smell," he said, Saturday (3/22).

Asep explained that the bunker was emptied using a fleet of dump trucks and trucks covered with tarpaulin to minimize odors and prevent garbage and leachate from being scattered on the road.

The dump trucks and trucks are then washed and sprayed with a deodorizer before leaving the RDF location after transporting the waste.

He continued, all Rorotan RDF facilities will be sterilized and given certain fragrances to eliminate odors after the garbage in the bunker is moved. Then Rorotan RDF will be temporarily closed to undergo repairs by the contractor.

According to him, his side plans to install air quality monitoring device at resident houses around 4-5 kilometers from the RDF. Deodorizer and air filter will also be installed.

"We ensure any steps taken will involve the residents. Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to provide fast handling for the sake of resident's health and comfort," he added.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Health Agency also has visited the impacted residents.

Cakung District Puskesmas Head, Junaidah admitted her party has visited the Jakarta Gading City (JGC) housing complex on Friday (3/21).

She confirmed that 12 children who had Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTIs) and conjunctivitis had recovered and returned to their normal activities.

Junaidah appealed the residents to contact Cakung Puskesmas if they need health service for free.

"We remain monitor the condition through local RT. We are also ready to visit them if needed," she stated.
