Environment Agency Solves RDF Rorotan Waste Smell Problem

The Jakarta Environment Agency is addressing the odor issue from Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF) Rorotan in Cilincing, North Jakarta, by emptying the waste and production results.

This is a follow-up to the directives of Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, and the requests of local residents.

Integrated Waste Management Unit Head, Agung Pujo Winarko said the emptying of RDF included 800 tons of old waste in the bunker and around 600 tons of RDF products in the production warehouse.

"We will clear all the waste and products at RDF Rorotan," he expressed, Friday (3/21).

He explained the process of emptying hundreds of trash in the bunker has been underway since February 19 and is targeted to be completed today. Meanwhile, the production warehouse is still in process and is projected to be empty in the next two to three days.

"We have sent the waste to the Bantargebang Landfill, including the RDF products to the plant in Bantargebang," he explained.

After the trash and production waste had been emptied, the bunker and warehouse would be sterilized by washing and applying a fragrance or deodorizer.

"We'll wash everything later and add a fragrance to eliminate this unpleasant smell. This smell comes from the garbage that has been piled up for a long time," he explained.

After the emptying, RDF Rorotan would be temporarily closed for repairs by the relevant contractor. The repairs included the addition of deodorizer to reduce odors and the addition of filters to combat air pollution.

Once the repairs were completed, it would be reopened and testing would begin again, with fresh waste and a limited production process. In the future, residents would also be able to observe the process.

"We do not yet know when we will operate again while waiting for all repairs to be completed. Hope with this evacuation, it can reduce unpleasant odors and residents can observe fasting and celebrate Idulfitri comfortably," he stated.
