150 Students to Study at University of Kuala Lumpur

Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno, Monday (4/21), signed the vocational education Letter of Intent (Lol) with Kuala Lumpur University (UniKL) and Malaysia Education Global Services (MEGS) at Grand Hyatt Hotel, Central Jakarta.

Rano said his side has conducted a study for a year with UniKL and MEGS. It is hoped the cooperation will improve the Jakarta preparation into a global city.

"We plan to send students to Kuala Lumpur. It could be more than 150 students," he said.

Jakarta-UK Strengthen Infrastructure and Education Cooperation

In line with the vision of becoming a global city that requires its residents to have adequate quality, Rano explained, the Jakarta Provincial Government has allocated 770 Jakarta Smart Cards (KJP) starting from elementary school to high school level.

Then Jakarta Provincial Government also has allocated 15,000 of Jakarta Excellent College Student (KJMU) beneficiaries for college students.

"With this program, we will send our students. Thanks for all support," he added.

Jakarta Regional Secretariat's Regional Cooperation Bureau Head, Marulina Dewi explained Lol about vocational education targets students, teachers and headmaster of Vocational High School.

"We support vocational high shool graduation to continue their study at UniKL," she explained.

The cooperation also assist them to work in Malaysia.

According to her, this collaboration is quite profitable, considering higher cost of education in Europe and usually requires an equivalency program of up to one year.

UniKL has also prepared a scholarship program and special discounts for education costs. Not only for students, this LoI also discusses cooperation if there are teachers and headmasters who want to conduct research.

"This Lol will be continued with MoU with the Home Affairs Ministry and Ministry of Foreign Affairs," she stated.
