The Jakarta Provincial Government, through Culture Agency, has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing Betawi culture as a vital component of Jakarta's identity and a national cultural asset.

Jakarta Culture Agency Acting Head (Plt), Mochamad Miftahulloh Tamary, stated that preserving and developing Betawi Asset as a crucial foundation as Jakarta aspires to become a global city.

"Cultural advancement is essential for every nation as it provides roots that define who we are, where we come from, and where we are heading. The advancement of Betawi cultural is carried out through four strategic pillars, namely protection, development, utilization, and guidance," he explained, on Thursday (5/24).

He conveyed that, as a culture that has grown and evolved alongside Jakarta's history, the preservation and promotion of Betawi culture are vital to ensure that its noble values, traditions, and local wisdom remain alive, relevant, and can be passed down to future generations.

Miftah explained that there are at least 10 objects of Betawi Cultural Advancement that become the focus of city government, namely Manuscripts, Customs, Rituals, Oral Traditions, Language, Arts, Traditional Knowledge, Traditional Technology, Traditional Sports, and Folk Games.

“Under the direction of Governor and Vice Governor, the Jakarta Government will incorporate the advancement of Betawi culture into local content lessons in schools, including pencak silat as an extracurricular activity. We want children and the younger generation to love their cultural roots and make Betawi culture a part of their lives,” he said.

Furthermore, he emphasized that the city is committed to protecting cultural sites, revitalizing fading traditions, utilizing cultural centers such as studios for public education, and fostering active participation from cultural communities in various activities.

"As we aspire to become a global city, one of the key indicator is culture. How to make Betawi culture to take the center stage in Jakarta, and we continue to promote its advancement not only at the national level, but also internationally," he asserted.

Miftah also called on artists and cultural art performers in Jakarta to take care of the necessary permits to ensure orderly, professional, and transparent management of cultural activities.

He also stressed that obtaining permits is not merely about legality but also serves as a form of protection and recognition for cultural art performers.

"To all cultural art performers and art studios in Jakarta, I urge you to process your Business Identification Number (NIB) and other required permits at Jakarta Provincial Public Service mall. Remember, take care of the permits yourself, because it is easy to be done," he closed.
