Earth Day, Pramono Encourages Citizens to Switch Off Lights Simultaneously

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has called on all Jakarta resdients to switch off their lights simultaneously on Saturday (4/26), from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

"W e hope that from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the lights can be turned off,"

This appeal was made to commemorate Earth Day, which is celebrated every April 22.

"I would also like to convey, to urge, and to request, because today is Earth Day, we hope that from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, the lights can be turned off," said Pramono at the National Monument (Monas) Field.

Pramono explained that this lights-off action is part of a global movement to raise awareness about the importance of protecting and caring for the Earth.

He has also instructed the internal ranks at City Hall to immediately disseminate this appeal to all Jakarta residents.

"This is part of our collective effort to care for the Earth. It has become a global movement and I have instructed the Jakarta City Hall's internal team to immediately disseminate this message," he mentioned.

For information, the Jakarta Provincial Government is holding a symbolic event called 'One Hour for Earth Action' by switching off lights and electricity for one hour on April 26 to commemorate Earth Day 2025.

The lights-off will take place from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM along the main roads and arterial roads in five regions. All Jakarta Provincial Government offices and buildings, as well as private buildings, commercial areas, shopping malls, restaurants, hotels, and apartments, will also participate in the lights-off action.

Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, stated that this action is part of efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Jakarta.
