Commission E Chairman Urges Increase in Reading Collections Across Libraries

Jakarta Council (DPRD) Commission E Chairman, Muhammad Thamrin has urged the Jakarta Provincial Government to add more reading collections in libraries, which have now extended their operating hours until the evening.

"Each library should enrich its book collection to better serve the reading interests of the public," 

This extension of operational hours is part of the directive from Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung in order to enhance public access to literacy and cultural spaces in the capital.

Thamrin believes that the policy of keeping libraries and museums open until the evening should be preceded by surveys and in-depth analysis to ensure its benefits for the community.

"Opening museums and libraries until the evening needs to be tested first," he added.

Furthermore, he also encouraged the government to hold various interesting events to boost public interest in visiting museums and libraries in the evening. According to him, this is crucial to ensure that the extended operating hours are not wasted.
