Legislator Francine Invites Residents to Actively Sort Waste

Jakarta City Council Commission B Member, Francine Widjojo encourages Jakarta residents to be more active in sorting organic and inorganic waste, to support more optimal waste management in the capital.

Residents who report waste issues should receive rewards

According to her, non-organic waste such as plastic and similar materials still has utility if processed correctly, for example into paving blocks or concrete bricks.

She also encouraged residents to actively report waste issues via Jakarta Kini (JAKI) application for immediate action. She even proposed an incentive system as a form of appreciation for residents who care about the environment.

"Residents who report waste issues should receive rewards, such as free public transportation. The system could use points, similar to what is implemented in Vietnam," she expressed, Friday (5/9).

She also emphasized the importance of sorting waste at the household level. This is deemed a first step to facilitate the processing in the next stage.

"The waste problem must start at home. If we are used to sorting from the beginning, the processing will be much easier. The pile of waste at the Bantargebang Landfill is now like an 18-story building with an area the size of a GBK soccer field," she stated.
