Commission D Supports Construction of Rorotan Rusunawa

Jakarta City Council Commission D Member, Ali Lubis, supports the Jakarta Government's plan to build a low-cost apartments (rusunawa) in Rorotan, North Jakarta.

This is a great idea

According to him, this is very positive, as it provides housing for residents.

"This is a great idea and the distance from the city is not that important because people don't have to live in the city center," he expressed, Saturday (5/10).

However, he reminded that the availability of transportation modes also needs to be prepared to facilitate the mobility of residents to the city center.

"Public transportation like Transjakarta is certainly needed," he explained.

Therefore, he encourages the Jakarta Government to continue building apartments as part of the efforts to provide decent housing, especially for low-income residents. He emphasizes that providing housing is the government's responsibility.

"Prospective flat residents must pass a selection process because many are in arrears with their rent payments after occupying the flats," he explained.

He also asked the Jakarta Public Housing and Settlement Agency (PRKP) to conduct a census of the apartment residents especially those who are victims of floods and fires. This is important to map out the reasons for their inability to pay rent.

"This is a serious issue where the amount of the arrears is huge, reaching tens of billions. Meanwhile, many people who want to live and are willing to pay rent in the apartments are not accommodated," he stated.
