Jakarta BBPOM Shares Education on Choosing Safe Cosmetics

The Jakarta Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (BBPOM) held a Communication, Information, and Education (KIE) event on Drugs and Food at the ITTIHAD Multipurpose Room, Jalan Ciputat Raya, Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta.

This event themed 'Healthy Skin with Safe Cosmetics' aims to increase public awareness about the importance of choosing safe cosmetic products.

This was attended by 200 people, mostly from the Pesanggrahan and Kebayoran Lama sub-districts.

Jakata Branch BPOM Head, Sofiyani Chandrawati said this event is held to empower the community in choosing cosmetic products that are guaranteed to be safe.

He emphasized the importance of educating consumers to distinguish between products that are registered with BPOM and those that are not. He also reminded the public to always check the packaging, labels, distribution permits, and expiration dates, commonly referred to as Cek KLIK, before purchasing cosmetic products.

"The safety of cosmetics is very important to protect our skin health. Do not be tempted by low prices or excessive claims. Always ensure that the products used have approval from BPOM," she explained, Wednesday (5/14).

DPR Commission IX Member, asurya Utama or called Uya Kuya, who was present at the event, stated that as a strategic partner, his side actively provides education to participants in a communicative and easy-to-understand style. He also prompted the public to use BPOM Mobile, an application that makes it easy for consumers to check the legality of products with just a click on their phones.

"We can quickly and easily verify cosmetic products. This is a simple step to ensure the safety and quality of the products we use," he explained.

The event also included a simulation of using BPOM Mobile, as well as a question-and-answer session that sparked the enthusiasm of the participants, and concluded with an educational quiz aimed at deepening the public's understanding of the importance of choosing safe cosmetic products.

"By doing so, Jakarta BBPOM together with Commission IX is committed to keep socializing and empowering the community, to create smart consumers who are protected from the potential dangers of illegal and hazardous cosmetics," he stated.
